I am sorry, it is only for Toefl. This is a strategy I've read. I hope it would help you improve your reading.

The first thing you have to do is “DON’T READ THE PASSAGES”. Your goal is to answer the questions correctly, not to understand what the passages are about, because they’re very non-organized, useless, ridiculous, time-wasted and too difficult, even for English speakers. In stead, you need to read the first sentences of the introduction and body paragraphs, and the last sentence of the concluding paragraph
There are 3 kinds of questions :

FIRST-PASS QUESTIONS : (easiest to answer and should be answered first ):

1. Vocabulary-In-Context question : ask you the meaning of one word in the passage.

Ex : The word “thrown” in paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to

Solution : replace each of the answer choices with the VIC word to see which one is most suitable to the sentence, the context.

2. Reference question :

Ex: The phrase “ thousands of times shorter ” in paragraph 3 refers to
The word “ They ” refers to ?

Solution : plug each answer choice back into the sentence and see if the sentence makes sense. Remember, pronouns must agree with verbs, numbers and gender.

3. Detail question : ask for the information appeared in the passage.

Ex : The lower lens of a compound microscope is called ?
According to the passage, the magnifying glass is also ?

Solution : find the keyword(s) in the question, then skim to see where it is in the passage. The information you need usually there.

SECOND-PASS QUESTIONS : ( answer after the first-pass questions )

1. Except / Not question :

Ex: Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a side-effect of caffeine?
The passage mentions all of the following as reasons for satellite usage EXCEPT

Solution : using chronology and the answer choices as lead words in order to locate the information in the text. Then choose the answer is not mentioned.

2. Conclusion question :

Ex: The passage would most likely be followed by a paragraph about
What would be the next paragraph following this passage?

Solution : read the last sentence of the passage, you’ll see some relations between it and one of the answer choices. Also pay attention to the keywords.

THIRD-PASS QUESTIONS : ( most difficult , so answer them last )

1. Main-Idea questions :

Ex : What is the main idea of the passage?
The primary purpose of the passage is to ?

Solution : after answering the first and second pass questions and do the 1-1-1-L method, you’ll have ideas about the main idea of the passage.

2. Infer / Imply questions :

Ex : The author’s tone in the passage could best be described as
What can be inferred about the process of mathematics as computing technology expanded?
It can be inferred from the passage that

Solution : like answering the main-idea question, you have to “suy ra” the answer of this type of question from the common sense.
Strategy

1. Move through the Directions quickly

2. Don’t read entire passages.

3. Answer the First-Pass questions --> Second-pass --> Third-pass in passage 1, then move to the passage 2 and do the same steps.

4. Keep your eye on time

5. Never get stuck on one question

6. Use common sense to reduce the answer choice possibility.

7. Answer every question. If you cannot answer, GUESS.

how do you think about it?
gook luck :)>-
